A few weeks ago my dad read the blog post I wrote about roadtrip stitching and wasn't impressed by my use of the "S" word. Oops. Who knew he might read my little ole blog about quilting? Go figure. "It isn't necessary," he says.
True, but in the case of Allegory's Sailor Mouth Swap it kind of is. We all had secret partners and were supposed to make one big item displaying some kind of obscenity, as well as a little something extra thrown in to sweeten the deal. My partner likes 1930's prints so I dug mine out and finally tackled an envelope closure pillow cover like I've wanted to try for so long now. Easy as pie!
I forgot to take a nice close up of the embroidery when I was done, but here's one I posted to instagram while I was working on it. I printed the words out, taped the paper to the window and traced them onto Moda quilter's muslin using a blue chalk pencil. Then embroidered using brown and pink pearl cotton.
The little extra was this pincushion I made using the left over strips from my granny square mug rug. While the pincushion is cute, I'd say the best part about the above photo is my fingernails! I've quite possibly kicked the nail biting habit, I swear those things used to be so awful I would specifically try not to show them in photographs on the blog. This is majorly big... seriously! We'll see how long I can keep it up :D
As for what my swap partner sent me, I couldn't have been more pleased! Lucy made a fabulously embroidered Johnny Cash hoop for me to hang in my sewing room, along with a rad pouch which has the most perfect stitching on it. I rarely have my shit together, so maybe this will help! She even threw in some scraps and a pincushion, the over-achiever!
I'm pretty sure Megan is starting back up with {sew} modern monday today, (fingers crossed!) so I'll be linking up with her in the morning. Whoo hoo! Also Sew Happy Geek and Plum and June.
And Dad, if you're reading this, apologies for the foul language. But the soft and delicate fabrics and stitching cancel out the crudeness, wouldn't you say? ;P
Of course the pretty liberty fabrics and colours and delicate embroidery cancel out the swearing!
ReplyDeletehahaa~definitely cancels it out. Your embroidery is the best. Such even stitches, and the pillow is so cute. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! And your embroidery is so perfect! In the first pic I thought those words were printed on the fabric.
ReplyDeleteFantastic!
Love it! I wish I had time to make stuff like that! Talent! I've nominated you for an award! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteOmigosh I immediately spotted those lovely fingernails. I KNEW what you were going to say before you even said it. Bravo lady, BRA-VO.
ReplyDeleteAnd BTW, I am so ridiculously impressed with your crafting skills I can hardly contain myself. Really. You're awesome.
LOL! I need to join this swap next time!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on beating the habit. I stopped when I was twelve because I didn't like showing my nails and know how ridiculously hard it is. I still tap them against my teeth when I'm stressed, though. No biting but a remnant.
ReplyDeleteLovely work, too! :)
LOL! Love that pillow! It is a nice reminder.
ReplyDeleteGreat pillow! And your stitching (and nails) look fabulous! I also love the things Lucy sent you. Looks like a great swap!
ReplyDeleteThat pillow is so great! Especially the stitching! Just Perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove that little pin cushion! And I am totally jealous of your nice little hand stitches on your pillow, haha.
ReplyDeleteOh that embroidery! I just died. It's wonderful. Way to go on kicking the nail biting habit, Krista!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this!
ReplyDeleteHehe love the cushion! Your stitching looks amazing! I bet your partner will be thrilled!
ReplyDeleteHa! I had to go back and reread that post about 6 times before I could find the word "shit".. apparently I'm just conditioned ;) But OMG.. can we talk about your embroidery?! It's perfect!! Do you just decide to pick something up and you're amazing at it? Because that's seriously what it looks like :)
ReplyDeleteYour stitching is amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou hand-embroidered those words? No wonder they look so great. I love the idea of two colors--really makes them look crisp and clean. Ah, but you are one talented scientist, this I already know.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have fun, but really, to save time I just need to stay off the internet, in any form (but what fun is that?)
Well done!
