this is only a test: results + solution

Yesterday's test run didn't work out quite right! There was more text to the blog post than what posted and the photo was the wrong size and in the wrong place... I adjusted my settings to make it so when I hit "send" from my email the post is sent to blogger as a draft, just to see what would happen. For some reason this change makes it come in perfectly! SO, I'll just write my posts in an email and send the draft to blogger, then up the photo size to XL and hit publish from a computer when I get the chance. This should work!!

Here's how yesterday's post was SUPPOSED to look:

Hey there! I've been trying to find an easier way for me to blog and thought posting via email might be the way to go. This is a test run!

Basically, my iPhone is what works for me. I used to use a blogging app a while back but it's crap now and I haven't been able to find another good one. The actual blogger app is complete junk. JUNK.

Now I'll copy a photo from my camera roll and paste it into this email to see how that translates onto the blog...

Hopefully you're seeing three lovely prints from Erin McMorris's Wildwood line in the fuchsia colorway. The first quilting cotton I ever purchased, can you believe that? I unearthed it while doing a massive overhaul of my sewing room. (I'll leave that for another day.)

Back to business! I just upgraded to an iPhone 4S and it's camera is SO much better than my 3GS. This makes me very happy!

So, no decent blogging apps for the iPhone... Don't you find that shocking? How do you guys blog? As in from the taking photos stage all the way up to the finished post? If I can't do it all on my iPhone it just doesn't seem to happen for me.

Hitting "send" now... Fingers crossed!

Sent from my iPhone

Has anyone else tried using this "post using email" feature? You can turn it on from your blogger dashboard by clicking on the drop-down menu to the right of the orange pencil button and clicking on "settings." Then at the lower left you'll see a "mobile and email" link, hit that and it's listed there. I found that the "publish email immediately" option didn't work right, but the "save emails as draft" option is great!

  1. I usually only do it from my PC. Tried from my smart phone a few months ago with no luck! (love the fabric, too)

  2. This sounds like a really good way of doing things. But how do you send an e-mail to Blogger? (sorry if I'm so computer illiterate)

  3. I blogged once from my Android app and it was lame. I'm interested in trying the email blogging thing, maybe I'll test it out tomorrow. I sometimes blog through a Flickr photo, but I don't care for that either, because it immediately publishes instead of sending it as a draft (or I just haven't figured that out yet!). I wonder if you can blog from the Flickr mobile app? Probably not because you can't even access groups on it. I'll poke around and see.

  4. I have used blogger as an ap on the iPad. I agree it's not brilliant. I just always save as draft and then fix it when I get to a real computer. I find with the app I can't put the pictures where I want them. They all end up in a random order at the bottom. And you can't really link to anything. But it let's me put my brain on paper (if you know what I mean) and I'm finding that proof reading is a good thing.
