Whew. This one took a while. Feels good to finish something for a change. The guilt from all my never-ending projects was beginning to get to me!
I started it back in November for the Drunkard's Path QAL, totally amped. The finished quilt link up was open for a week at the beginning of December and I completed missed the deadline. Whoops.
I used Kona charcoal along with fat quarter bundles from JoAnn's (the florals) and Walmart (the dots/stripes). The backing is from a 100% cotton flat sheet I found at a thrift store for a couple bucks. I free-handed the quilting on a long arm machine I miraculously have access to. 2 1/4in strips cut from the leftovers were pieced together for a scrappy binding, which I stitched down by hand.
I wrote about my first go at dunkard's path blocks in this post, where I offered up some tips I thought might be helpful for anyone trying this block for the first time. Just in case you're a complete noob like me and would like to skip the "discovery" stage and get right to rocking socks off.
I'll be linking up with Megan's {sew} Modern Monday and Jenna's Manic Monday:D
This is a great quilt! I've only ever made one of these blocks but your design inspires me to try it again!

ReplyDeletegorgeous colours love the scrappy binding too x
ReplyDeleteLooks really great! I've only done a couple of drunkard's path blocks and they kicked my butt! Turned out okay, but I found it really tricky, so I admire your project a lot because I know the effort it takes! The binding is really fun too. :)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! Congrats on the finish! I'm ready to finish something too! I like kitty in the first picture, how sweet!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is wonderful! I haven't tried drunkard's path, but you might have just tempted me to try it. The pink works really well with Kona charcoal and that scrappy border is great!

ReplyDeleteI love, love, love pink and gray! I know everyone is hot for yellow and gray right now, which I like but don't love~ Nice quilt!~
ReplyDeleteThis looks so cool! I made one of these that is waiting to be bound and I love what you did with yours! The solid grey is so great with the pink and I love the pattern you chose for your squares. Lots of work but I kindof want to make another one and pattern it like you did!
ReplyDeleteI think I lost the last comment so I will say it again. Oh my you chose a gorgeous setting for those blocks!! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! There's something sort of Ohio Star-ish about the setting (at least in the little thumbnail pic I saw in Google Reader). Love the quilting. Curves still elude me, so I'm always impressed when other people do them so well. :)
