The Bummer Before Christmas

thread holder - in progress
I went to a friend's house Friday evening to work on thread holders. She served up a mean plate of spaghetti and I headeded home around nine to find my back door busted in and my house ransacked. Lovely. After a bit of a panic attack as I assessed the damage, I'm happy to report they left all of my quilting supplies and the dog untouched. Thank God! They did however make off with two laptops, the roomie's giant flat screen television, all his high tech gaming equipment and a bunch of other stuff.

It's difficult knowing people used a crowbar to get in my house and take all the things my best friend and I work really hard for. I know they used a crowbar because the idiots accidentally left it behind. While we feel incredibly violated, electronics can be replaced. I hope they stole from us so that their children could have presents on Christmas and not to fuel some drug habit. Either way, my most prized possessions were overlooked: the animals, my sewing machines, the stack of quilts finished and ready for gifting. I was surprised they didn't grab my kaleidoscope quilt off the couch to wrap around the television for protection during the move. But they didn't think to do that and I'm really grateful because it would have been utterly devastating.

At any rate, the next day Michael and I were feeling picked on and decided we deserved coordinating iPads. These things are pretty fun and I plan on making them little outfits after the holidays. I also did some serious quilting this weekend in an effort to stay in my happy place. In case you're wondering why such an awful thing would happen to such incredibly amazing people (grin) we're pretty sure it's because I took down a window curtain in the living room so the Christmas tree could be visible from the street. Unfortunately so was the flat screen... Oops!

Lesson learned! We're getting a dragon and starting construction on a moat ASAP ;P

Here's a quilty pic for ya :D

  1. That is so bad and I am so sorry for you. Though as you say techy stuff can be replaced on insurance. But nonetheless it does feel like an invasion - get the dragon in place asap!

  3. Very sorry. I had my home burgled a number of years ago. It feels absolutely horrible, but does eventually get better. As you said, things can be replaced. If you have home owners or renters insurance, they should cover the cost of replacement, minus your deductible.

  4. Oh gosh Krista, I'm so sorry for your and your roommates lose. But you seem to have a great perspective on the whole thing. I hope you have a wonderful and warm Christmas!

  5. People are such assholes! Hope you can get some awesome replacements for all your electronic goodies.

A friend of mine got his apartment robbed years ago. They made a sandwich for themselves and dropped a deuce and didn't flush. The gall of crack heads amazes me.

  7. Oh no! The violated feeling is the worst :( I hope you are alright and you get your replacements soon. And I'm glad that none of your "important" things were taken.. If the dog was gone I think I would be in tears!

  9. Krista, how awful! So glad to hear that things did not turn out more unfortunately, although I am sure that is little comfort. It's hard to lose that feeling of safety and privacy and then attempt to recover it.

I hope that you have a wonderful Christmas and everything is 'right' again.

  11. Awww, you poor dear (and your roomie), how awful! I can't imagine that feeling of being violated like this. So glad that YOU are okay though, and glad that your kaleidoscope and other important things stayed put.

  12. When you get your dragon, -and they have delicate digestive systems and can take careful nurturing-make sure you get one of the breeds which can be trained to 'hold' as you do not want them to eat all the evidence. That way the next lot of potential perpetrators may have second thoughts. Oh and do not forget your 'dangerous animal licence' either.

Seriously though, I am really sorry that this has happened, it is a shame that some people out there have so few morals and feel this is acceptable.
Have a great Christmas anyway and bad cess to them!

  13. Krista I can't even write what I think about the people that did this to you, it's far too rude. I'm so sorry that happened. Good to know that quilters don't go robbing! You have a fantastic attitude and I hope you have a lovely Christmas despite this horrible intrusion. Karma is a ***** so they'll be taken care of. Sending you hugs x

  18. Wow--this IS the pits, and just before Christmas. I guess all of us at one time or another have our stuff ripped off (I've had it happen three times--it was the kid next door coming back every week until he was caught) and I still remember that incredible feeling of being violated. It does go away with time, but it still makes me mad whenever I about someone so nice as yourself having that icky experience.

Glad you got something fun out of it. Hope you have a Merry Christmas!!
