a quilt for comfort + sts blocks

My STS! bee mates and I whipped up a quilt for our fellow bee mate and quilty goddess, Monique. She's currently kicking breast cancer's ass and we figured she ought to have a quilt to wrap herself up in during the fight. She posted her story here, if you'd like to go show some love. She's in great spirits and is feeling super creative, which I think is really inspiring.

Monique really loves to pick out a "focus" fabric and use it to determine fabrics and design for a whole quilt. "Clippings" in cherry by AMH is one of her favorites, so we pulled color inspiration from that fabric but each made any 12" finished blocks we wanted. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with how well they all go together. Teamwork for the win.

Kristan did a fantastic job of assembling the blocks into a top, quilting it and finishing it off with a scrappy binding comprised of random strips sent in along with our blocks. Thanks Kristan! Monique got her quilt and plans to bring it with her to chemo, along with some other quilts she's made to share with her fellow cancer-fighters. Isn't that just sweet? She's amazing.

These are the four blocks I contributed. They were all made from my scrap bin, but the top two generated even more scraps, so I used those up in the one on bottom left. Then the heart, just because. I really love the heart. We hope this quilt keeps Monique warm, cozy and cheerful during her chemo treatments, and for years to come.

Quilt stats:
Blocks contributed by members of the stitch that stash! bee (Amanda, Nicole, Kristan, Kristi, Kris, Deborah, Deb W, me)
Assembled, quilted and bound by Kristan
Backing provided by Amanda
Roughly 48" by 60"

Thanks guys!!
