WiP Wed - New Block!

This is the second one of these Rose Star/Jazz Hands whatever-you-wanna-call-it blocks. Kris, over at Duke Says Sew What first tipped me off about Clare's Rose Star block party, which I promptly joined in on. I had been hand-piecing like mad already, and after cranking out a few of these my arm was about to fall off.

That's when I decided to up the hexie size to 8 inches (point to point) and try machine piecing. I'd never done y-seams by machine but I figured it out. The first block might be more visually striking in photographs, but in real life this one is my favorite. It screams tropical vacation or something like that.

As far as WiPs go, I made one block for my mom's quilt, and started this new quilt, with two block done now. Nothing else got touched!

Completed Projects - 3
New Projects - 1
Ongoing Projects - 7

I also want to mention my pal Elizabeth is having an awesome Superior Thread giveaway, which you can find here. She's awesome and is full of useful quilty info and wisdom. Plus she writes like a dream :D

Linking up with Lee's WIP Wednesday :D

  1. This block is breathtaking!
This is going to be one amazing quilt!

  2. All that hand stitching has paid off with a beautiful block.

  3. That is so pretty! I just learned to make hexies so when I see other shapes in blocks I am reminded of the possibilities.

  4. Great block Krista! Do you have a template to cut your kite shapes? Or an Acuquilt machine?

  5. That is an amazing block! Beautiful!!

  6. Very tropical! A nice contrast to all the snow I see outside.

I will be getting to these sooner rather than later. I got myself completely hooked on EPP and any time I sit down on the couch, I just have to pick up the project I'm working on.

  7. Want to let you know I have awarded you the Liebster award!

  8. Looks like you've been awarded the Liebster Award twice in one day! You can learn more about the award on my blog, too!

  9. Just seeing this post. Thx for the link back! So you are doing them on the machine....great idea to speed things up!

  10. Now I have another answer! You do machine piece! I love it that you are mainly using the diamond shape!

I love hearing from you, thanks for stopping by!
