Free Motion Friday #3

Uh, almost forgot to do this until I saw last week's attempt as I was cleaning up my sewing space!

I'm not that fond of this this week's pattern, slate tiles because there's too much overlapped stitching for my liking. I do think it looks better with squares inside squares, though!

Let's just say I like other patterns a lot better. My first ever attempt at FMQ evolved into this sort of boxy-meandering thing that I did around the edges.

Thanks to Cindy for hosting this killer link party to aid us in tackling free motion quilting :D

I'm heading out of town to visit some old college pals, but I'll try to keep up with blogland while I'm gone. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

  1. Looks like you had a good time with this one - nice even stitching and a bit of improv on the side!

  3. If Mayan ruins had quilts to accompany them, I'm pretty sure they would be quilted like that. Nice work though, at least if you don't like the pattern it's good practice anyways!

  4. I like your squares in squares and your random quilting round the edges!

  5. Maybe it's all the Halloween stuff everywhere, but this design looks like teeth! (not just yours. )

I like the doodles on the side. I would call that 8 bit stipple.

  7. Your stitching is so beautifully even! I love your take on this pattern and like you, I wasn`t so keen on the tiles...next week`s looks um...challenging?

  8. That's my girl! Thinking outside of the box. YES! I couldn't follow the pattern either...I found it a tad boooriiiing. So I love that you shook it up a bit too. I had written that I wanted to try boxes within boxes...great minds think alike!!! Have fun with your college friends.

  12. You're terrific at experimenting and making a FMQ pattern your own--I'm going to add this one to my stack of ideas, because I love it! Actually I like all your FMQ stuff.

And can I just say that the pumpkins in the next post are so wonderful? I think you did a fab job. We were in Montreal for a week (missed some WIPs) while my scientist husband was at a toxicology meeting. I even went to some of the presentations and can now say carcinogenic really fast and not screw it up. Not bad for an Englishy person like me. We had a great time--I love scientists!
